Longan Fruit Plant

Longan (Dimocarpus longan) is a tropical fruit native to South Asia and China, often called the “Dragon’s Eye” because its translucent white flesh and dark seed resemble an eyeball once peeled. It belongs to the soapberry family, making it a close relative of the lychee and rambutan

• Taste: It has a mildly sweet, musky, and floral flavor, often compared to a grape or a less acidic lychee. Some describe hints of caramel, melon, or honey.
• Texture: The edible white aril is juicy and has a jelly-like consistency similar to a grape.
• Appearance: The fruit is small and round with a thin, leathery, tan-colored shell that is easy to crack and peel. 

1. Fresh: Pinch or bite the thin shell to crack it open, then peel it away to reveal the fruit. Pop the flesh into your mouth and discard the single hard black seed.
2. Dried: Dried longan is a popular ingredient in Chinese herbal teas and soups, known for its deep, smoky sweetness.
3. Culinary: It is frequently used in desserts, fruit salads like the Exotic Longan Salad, and traditional Asian recipes such as Longan Congee or sweet soups.
